Vote November 5th!
Abel Maldonado For Santa Maria Mayor

by Victor D. Tognazzini

Dear Editor,

Elections!

They are an integral part of the democratic process, though we often find ourselves either voting for the lesser of two or more evils or wishing there was way to check “none of the above”.

In November’s Mayoral race, the voters of Santa Maria have a rare opportunity to vote for a candidate who is clearly the best choice for Mayor - Abel Maldonado.

It had been my privilege to witness the rise of this gentlemen from a hard working young farmer on rented ground to a successful landowner and grower and shipper of fresh vegetables and strawberries. I have witnessed his rise from irrigator and tractor driver to his successful bid for a seat on the Santa Maria City Council. I know him to be a man of vision and with a sense of purpose and direction that is uncommon among his peers. I have been impressed by his approach to issues facing the city council. The recent ill-advised, possible acquisition of the Santa Maria Airport by the city was one such issue. Councilman Maldonado, on his ow3n, thoroughly investigated the issue, traveling to several airports around the state, studying all facets of the matter before coming to a decision on the subject. Maldonado is an intelligent, articulate leader whose character has been honed by hard work and who shows the very highest qualities of leadership.

I was born in Santa Maria, my family are pioneers in this area and though I reside outside the city limits and thus cannot vote for Maldonado, I urge the voters of my hometown to cast your ballot in November for a man with a “new” pioneering spirit.

You will find three individuals on your ballot, seeking the position of Mayor. A retired Mayor who has had his “last hurrah”, a man whose heart many have been in the right place but who invective was divisive and embarrassing. The incumbent who though a fine gentlemen has wavered on issues, alienated many of his constituency and often failed to vote his conscience in favor of voting with the majority. There is only one clear choice for Santa Maria. Abel Maldonado!

Sincerely,

Victor D. Tognazinni
